Peter Harthan

Our esteemed former captain and wicket keeper, it is unknown whether his true heart lies in Lancashire or Yorkshire [Lancashire, Ed]. Either way, he is a steady right hand batsman whose recent impressive run scoring exploits can be found engraved on the back of his trusty blade. Of course when I say recent, I mean a 92 not out from 1996 [actually it’s 102* from 2003, but point taken, Ed].
Michael Armstrong
21/09/20 16:32

Michael is a player of very contrasting styles. When batting he is a hard hitting batsman with a direct and combative style, some might say a poor man’s Greg Brooker. His bowling is altogether a more delicate and thoughtful process. Predominantly a leg spinner, he has the ability to turn the ball either way, and has a detailed and closely guarded repertoire of tic tac signals to the wicketkeeper indicate the intended spin and speed of the next delivery. Michael also excels at stunning catches, most notably a spectacular diving outfield catch at Ormskirk away in 2012.
Greg Brooker
21/09/20 16:31
Our most talented batsmen, Greg once took a bowler for 83 runs in one over. When batting with him you tend to feel weak as he sends another missile over the boundary. We have never seen him bowl so we have convinced ourselves he must be rubbish. Just to make ourselves feel better.
Mark Chester
21/09/20 16:31
Probably the team’s most reliable fielder, Mark used to open the bowling before getting a bad case of the yips. This resulted in a sentence of community service following the attempted decapitation of an opponent after a third successive beamer. Mark’s bat has scored a lot of runs over the last few years, usually in the hands of someone else.
John Clarke
21/09/20 16:31
Part time sailor and ever more part time cricketer, it is a welcome privilege when Jon turns out for the team. A dangerous bowler and big hitting batsmen, his cricketing prowess defies the fact he drives a hairdresser’s car.
Rob Dudley
21/09/20 16:30
Rob has returned to the team as a regular following a break of a few years. He is rarely seen padded up but when bowling he has a deceptive change of pace and variable flight that leads to frequent fivefers.
The Rt Hon Lord Justice Edis
21/09/20 16:29
A semi-retired cricketer, Andrew enjoys the finer aspects of cricketing. Afternoon tea, drinking wine while umpiring. That sort of thing. Younger members of the team look back through the score book to the time he took 7-12 somewhat in awe of what a bowler he must have been. The book does not convey the standard of the opposition.
Simon Gorton QC
21/09/20 16:28
As the most modest of the silks to play for the team, Simon is reliable with the bat and unreliable with the ball. He remains the only person in cricketing history to have been given out LBW on 10 or more occasions and none of the decisions to be correct. He insists he is the best cricketer in his family. We are not so sure.
Tom Gosling
21/09/20 16:28
Our vice captain elect has been Seen by some as our premier strike bowler, Tom has been in the wickets over the past few years with a combination of guile and grace. Whilst it has been suggested his running between the wickets leaves a lot to be desired any suggestions that he was once lapped by Chester are denied.
Nick Orr
21/09/20 16:27
Despite approaching the latter half of his career, Nick remains a menace with a bat and a ball in his hand. He will frequently go down on one knee and smash the ball over the rope for six and when he’s bowling …well nobody expects the slower ball.
Nigel Power QC
21/09/20 16:27
Nigel’s impressive performances with bat and ball have led to some in the team nicknaming him Nigel ‘the power’ Power. Some would say that Nigel is the best wicketkeeper in the team although whether we should take his own word for it is somewhat debatable. Nigel remains in the top two players from the Power family to play for the Liverpool Bar over the past couple of years.
Charles Prior
21/09/20 16:27
Along with Kenward, Charles is the team’s only other ‘proper cricketer’. Charles had enjoyed international honours as well as frequently regaling his colleagues of that 6 that he hit in Bath. Charles is the best in the team with the ball and does not like it when you drop a catch off his bowling. Somewhat surprisingly, he doesn’t have the same problem when he drops a catch off anyone else’s.
Will Rankin
21/09/20 16:26
As a coach of various high level cricket teams, Will is always aghast at the standards on display with the Liverpool Bar, but does it best to hide it. As the second best bowler in his family, his off-breaks are a very useful addition to the team but it is with the bat that he really excels. There are suspicions about the legality if Will’s bat given the loud thwack that can be heard on yet another cover drive but he insists the ‘Uzi’ is above board.
Shannon Eastwood
21/09/20 16:26
Shannon as one of the younger members of the team still has some growing to do to get the ball off the square. Along with Chester, he is one of the most nimble performers in the field. He has had to adapt to batting with the big boys, developing a shot known as ‘the Clint’. At least we think it’s a shot rather than an attempt to avoid the ball
Andrew Sinker
21/09/20 16:25
Andrew is a stalwart of the team who is solid in the field and when he gets the opportunity to bat. Another one for the slightly the over top celebration, although any suggestion that it is out of surprise when he has caught it is expressly denied. Andrew doesn’t get to bowl often for reasons that are best known to the captain.
David Tinkler
21/09/20 16:25
David has had an impressive few years with the bat although his ‘shot putting’ technique of getting the ball in from the boundary is somewhat questionable. It is however his celebrations after catches where is performance really excels. The story of the time he ran across the wicket, the outfield, the car park, the adjacent road and a nearby park to celebrate a regulation catch of a 14 year old has been somewhat blown out of proportion. The batsman was 15.
Tim Kenward
21/09/20 16:22

Tim is the best batsman on the team and whilst some of his team mates question his running between wickets Tim stands by his policy of not running other people’s runs. He also turns in a very handy performance with the ball although is perhaps not quite as nimble at mid-on as he used to be.
